IPA is a faith-based community organization based on a institutional member and chapter model. Institutions join IPA through a commitment to the mission of the organization and payment of annual dues. A majority of the institutions that are members of IPA are congregations.
The By-laws adopted by the Board of Directors in 2009 that transformed the Central Illinois Organizing Project to the statewide Illinois People’s Action created a chapter system. Each major metropolitan community and rural Illinois are represented on the Board through a Chapter composed of member groups.
Chapters meet regularly and are the initial entry point for groups wishing to participate in IPA. The local chapter identifies justice issues to organize on, participates in statewide IPA campaigns, build local relationships to increase membership and leadership training.
Chapters are up and running in Bloomington-Normal, Peoria, Decatur, Springfield and East St. Louis. Contact IPA for local chapter leaders and meeting schedules.
